Web Maintenance….It’s a Good Thing
In this age of multi-tasking and über achievement, it is virtually impossible for anyone to tackle an entire to-do list, whether it be personal or professional. Recently, I was struck by a comment made by a colleague, along this line.
My associate was comparing web maintentance to, of all things, house work. Now I’m no Martha Stewart, nor do I wish to be. I’m highly allergic to crafts of any variety, but I do understand the basics of keeping house. If you can’t keep the entire place clean (who can?), you must be strategic. In other words, when time is at a premium, servicing the dishes, beds, the toilet and the shower are higher priority than dusting the curio cabinet.
So it is with web maintenance. Even if you can’t perform regular content updates, it’s worth the effort to undertake a quick test of search engine results and review your site metrics to flag any key patterns or issues. Then, when you can devote the time, adjust your content in order to maintain or improve your rankings and performance.
I do think that this comparison was an apt one. After all, who wants a smelly website?
