The key to your company
I taught this afternoon at the Schulich Executive Education Centre - the class was about “Marketing Communications in Action”. Of course, we discussed marketing on the web.
One participant asked a question about whether his organization should continue to place their corporate URL on “every single piece of marketing collateral”. The general consensus (and I agreed) was that this was absolutely the right thing to do. One person responded with a great counter-question - “Why wouldn’t you want to give people a key to your company?”
I really liked that analogy. Thanks to (you know who you are) for such a thought-provoking remark!
This “key to your company” analogy for a website URL can be extended in some interesting ways…Will your visitor find the key to your company easy to use - or is the lock a bit sticky? Does your company welcome the visitor, or is the place a bit of a mess? Is the visitor going to be impressed with the décor, or will they have to step over the pile of newspapers, to get to the kitchen?
Quick - go tidy up your (corporate) room! We’ve got visitors!!!
