Just Like Garbo“Ve vant to be alone”!

So, how’s the Do Not Call registry working for you?  Eternally optimistic soul that I am, I eagerly signed up for Canada’s DNC registry at the earliest possible opportunity.  I do realize that there are some organizations which remain exempt from the DNC restrictions.  Nonetheless I was greatly dismayed to receive a call this morning from 3 companies which are clearly not adhering to that list.

Shortly after this unwanted call, I stumbled across the following article: “One-Fifth of Marketers Send Emails Even after Consumers Unsubscribe”.  The article described a recent study by ReturnPath that found that almost 20% of the top brand marketers continue to send further eMails to consumers, even after acknowledging an “unsubscribe” request.  The article went on to say  “Of the 20% of companies that sent more than one additional eMail after the opt-out request was received, many sent four or more additional messages, a practice that Return Path said could undermine customers’ relationships with the brand.” – NO KIDDING!

I understand, support and even practice the art of direct marketing.  However, I do believe that consumers have a right to be heard, and when they ask nicely, to be left alone!  We will all do our brands a favour by listening to them.
